Exosome hair treatment
Hair exosomes represent one of the most innovative regenerative therapies in dermatology for the treatment of alopecia, with growing scientific evidence. They act by modulating the biology of the hair follicle, promoting the growth phase (anagen) and reducing the microinflammation responsible for the progressive thinning of the hair.
Unlike autologous exosomes, which are obtained from the patient’s own blood and used in specific protocols covered on another page, this procedure uses standardized exosomes designed for hair applications. They are safe, stable, and suitable for both men and women with different types of alopecia.
It is a particularly useful option when there is persistent hair loss, reduced density, or early follicle miniaturization.
How exosomes act on the hair follicle
Exosomes act as biological messengers capable of regulating key processes involved in hair growth. Their use is supported by preclinical studies and preliminary clinical publications that demonstrate their regenerative potential in the early stages of alopecia.
Activation of follicular stem cells
They promote the reactivation of the cellular niches responsible for hair growth, particularly useful in early follicle miniaturization.
Improvement of microcirculation
They promote increased blood flow, oxygen, and nutrient supply to the follicle.
Reduction of microinflammation
They regulate perifollicular inflammation, a key factor in progressive hair thinning.
Prolongation of the anagen phase
They help keep the hair in the growth phase for longer, increasing density and thickness.
Strengthening of the hair shaft
They improve the structural quality of the hair, making it more resistant.
The goal is to slow hair loss, improve visual density, and promote regrowth when the follicle retains functional capacity.
Types of alopecia suitable for treatment
Hair exosomes are primarily indicated for:
- male androgenetic alopecia (grades I–IV)
- female androgenetic alopecia (diffuse pattern)
- persistent telogen effluvium
- loss of density due to stress, hormonal changes, or nutritional deficiencies
- early or moderate follicle miniaturization
- progressive hair thinning
- patients who wish to enhance or maintain results after a hair transplant
Although they improve the overall quality of the scalp, they do not replace a hair transplant, but they can optimize its results and slow the progression of alopecia.
Compatibility with other hair treatments
Exosomes work particularly well when combined with other therapies
- minoxidil (topical or oral)
- hair mesotherapy
- low-level laser therapy (LLLT)
- amino acids and hair vitamins
- PRP (platelet-rich plasma)
- oral or topical antiandrogens, when indicated
The treatment should be integrated into an individualized medical plan.
Treatment timeline
- initial session: high dose of exosomes to activate regeneration
- booster: 1 session at 4 weeks
- maintenance: every 6–12 months depending on progress
The first changes are usually observed between 6 and 12 weeks, with continued progression over the following months.
Expected results
- more controlled hair loss
- stronger, less brittle hair
- greater visual density
- thickening of the miniaturized follicle (if it retains functional capacity)
- improvement in scalp condition
- more uniform hair growth
Results are progressive and depend on the initial condition of the follicle and adherence to the treatment plan.
Price of hair exosome treatment
- type of alopecia
- degree of miniaturization
- number of recommended sessions
- necessary complementary therapies
In consultation, we carry out a complete assessment and develop a personalized treatment plan.
Contraindications
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
- active scalp infections
- severe uncontrolled dermatitis
- unstable autoimmune diseases
- immunosuppressed patients
- allergies to bioactive components
- scarring alopecias (require a different approach)
Each case is individually assessed.
We answer your questions about hair exosomes
Can exosomes replace minoxidil or other treatments?
No. They are a complementary therapy. They can enhance results, but they do not replace medical treatments with strong scientific evidence.
What is the difference between exosomes and PRP?
PRP uses growth factors from the patient’s own blood. Exosomes are bioactive vesicles with a greater capacity for cellular signaling. In many cases, they are combined to improve results.
Can they restore completely lost areas?
Only if the follicle retains functional capacity. In scarred areas or areas without follicles, hair regeneration is not possible.
Is it compatible with a hair transplant?
Yes. It can be used before or after the transplant to optimize follicle quality and graft survival.
Are the results permanent?
No. Androgenetic alopecia is progressive. Exosomes help slow its progression and improve density, but they require maintenance.
